Giving the bees a new home

This was last August after the tree blew over that the bees were in. Knowing that there was little chance for their winter survival we put them into brood boxes and moved them to the farm.

 We cut 12" sections apart on the log.  The bees were about 4 foot deep into the tree.

 This was a very tedious task to gently remove most of the comb and not injure too many bees.

We left the hive body there for the night so that any foraging bees would return and find their queen safely in the hive.

Recipe for Honey and Peanut Butter Bars

6 cups krispy rice cereal
1 cup honey
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup peanut butter

Place honey and sugar in large saucepan.  Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until sugar dissolves nad mixtue begins to boil.  Remove from heat.  Stir in peanut butter. Mix well.  Add krispy rice cereal.  Stir until we coated.   Press mixture into 13x9 pan coated with cooking spray.  Let cool and cut into bars.

Hive visit on Sunday

I have 3 hives that are looking pretty good. I rotated hive bodies and added a top feeder to two of the hives.  My husband has planted a field of clover right out their front door. I can't wait for it to come up.  I plan on removing a hive from an old barn soon.  Will let you know how that goes.
